The vitamin that is essential to our eye health

Regardless of the season, basking in the sunlight can be beneficial for your eye health, offering advantages like providing Vitamin D, which plays a crucial role in helping the body absorb calcium for stronger bones.¹
When it comes to your eyes, research links low levels of Vitamin D to vision conditions such as²:
- Age-related macular degeneration (AMD): AMD is the leading cause of vision loss in older adults.² Although AMD doesn’t cause complete blindness, the loss of central vision can make it harder to do everyday tasks.
- Cataracts³: This vision condition causes cloudy areas to form on the lens of your eye.
Beyond eye health, Vitamin D also has other benefits for the body – it supports immune health and helps keep muscles and brain cells working.¹
Depending on where you live and your lifestyle, you might not get enough Vitamin D from the sun alone, so it’s important to consider alternative sources, such as supplements or food.
Foods that are rich in Vitamin D include⁴:
- Fish: Cod liver oil, salmon, tuna, sardines, halibut, mackerel and herring
- Mushrooms
- Eggs
- Milk
- Orange juice
